Hamra Street (2007)

Project developed as part of an artistic residency organized between the Dutch Art Institute (NL) and Zico House (LB) and funded by The Prince Claus Foundation.

This project was carried out with Reine Mahfouz (Lebanon) and Erkan Özgen (Turkey) and resulted in an intervention in the public space of downtown Beirut. People from all over the city were invited to describe the Hamra Street power plant and draw a map to get there. Portraits of these participants were also made. This strategy created an image of Hamra Street made by those who do not live there, which was then printed in a fanzine and distributed around the city.

The work was presented at the Al Madina Theatre in Beirut (2007) and exhibited at the Kunstvlaii Art Fair 7, in Amsterdam (2008), curated by James Beckett.
