|the contextualized image | is an exhibition project coordinated by José Luís Neto at the Lisbon Municipal Archive, which began in 2007 with a bibliographic exhibition of works by artists on contemporary photography, later expanding to exhibitions, lectures and other formats. The projects were presented at the tables in the reading room and to date fifty-one exhibitions have been held. The book is the result of a selection of images from the projects exhibited in the exhibitions over fifteen years, namely photography, video, installation and artist's book.
